Lamar Dodd School of Art Ceramics Building

The architecture of the brand new Lamar Dodd School of Art Ceramics Building on the University of Georgia campus is very modern and features large open studios and specially constructed rooms for gas firing kilns. The landscape complements the strong lines of the architecture along the front façade and provides a seamless transition to the adjacent wooded area along the remaining façades by using loose plant massing and a plant palette dominated by native plant species. The planting design within the limits of disturbance thereby gives the illusion that the building was constructed in the woods and subsequently lends itself well as a backdrop for sculpture. The building and its surroundings were indeed quickly embraced by the ceramics students as a variety of beautiful and quirky sculptural objects dot the landscape.
